- What makes you so interested in working with finance?
As cliche as it sounds, money is what makes the world go round. Some people treat their finances like a lottery. If it turns out good, then they are lucky. If it turns out bad, then they just had a bad spin. I am interested in taking control of my gambles, rather than leaving them to chance. That is why I work with finance and risk management.
- Did you have a mentor?
Absolutely. How could I possibly have gotten to where I am today without someone to point me in the right direction? If anyone is trying to do what I have done, they should not go about it alone. You will need a mentor to share wisdom that they have learned, so that you can move forward faster.
- What do you recommend for others who wish to follow in your footsteps?
Work hard, and put your whole heart into it. Do not start pursuing your dreams unless they actually are your dreams. It is going to get hard, and if you are not completely invested when it does, you will give up. If you give up, you will have wasted the time you already invested, and you will never see what you could have accomplished.
- What do you do when you fail?
Failure happens all the time. Nobody is perfect, and not every idea is going to work. When I fail, I like to do two things. First, I analyze what went wrong. Did I miscalculate somewhere? I can take that analysis and apply it to my future endeavors. Second, I keep going with my next idea. Sometimes you will want to hide your failures, but I have found it is better to just accept them and try again.
- How do you find your good ideas?
I like to study things out and find the best possible answer. I am not one who always follows his gut – I prefer to follow the results of research and analysis. If you follow your heart, you might be right. If you follow your heart and have proof to back up your decision, then you know you will be right.
